Most top schools publish their prompts between late May and July, ahead of Round 1 deadlines in early-to-mid September. As of mid-July 2026, all 12 schools tracked here have released their 2026-27 questions, though a few components (such as video essay details that live inside the application portal) are finalized when the application opens.
Some do, most do not. Signature prompts like Stanford GSB's 'What matters most to you, and why?' have been stable for decades, while other schools reword, shorten, or swap a prompt most cycles. That is why each school on this page carries the date we last checked its prompts against the official source.
It ranges from one long essay plus short answers to three or more required pieces, and several schools add video components (Kellogg, MIT Sloan, Berkeley Haas, Darden, and Yale SOM among them). The per-school sections below list every required and optional component with its word or character limit.
Always against the school's own admissions page or the live application. Every school section on this page links to its official source, and the verbatim wording here was checked against those sources on the listed date. Portal-only details can still shift when applications open.
Rarely word for word, because prompts differ in intent and limit, but the underlying stories can absolutely be reused. Most strong applicants build a bank of core stories, then reshape each one to the specific question and word count a school asks.
Inside AdmitForge, each of these prompts comes with element-level guidance on what a strong answer includes, outlines built from your own story bank, and versioned critique of the drafts you write. We never write a word for you; we help you make yours impossible to ignore. Start with the free diagnostic, or join the waitlist for the full workspace.
Prompt wording is reproduced verbatim from each school's official page or, where prompts live inside the login-gated application, from consistent reputable secondary sources. Schools can change prompts mid-cycle; always confirm against the linked official source before you write.
